“I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat… John 21:3
Purpose:
To point outdoorsmen to the cross by introducing local fishermen, businesses, and churches to the Coastal Texas region of Blast & Cast Men’s Ministries.
Date:
Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 6:30 am until 2:00 pm.
Guest Speaker:
James McDowell – SALT Club Board Member and Blast & Cast Pro Staff
Registration:
Free! Space is limited so register now. We will prioritize opportunities for those who have not attended Blast & Cast events in the past. Veteran Blast & Cast participants are encouraged to volunteer as boat owners and/or anglers (1 per boat).
Age Limitations/Restrictions: Youth participants must attend with a parent or guardian.
Fishing:
Join us to enjoy a morning of saltwater fishing on Sabine Lake. We will meet in the parking lot at Riverfront Park in Port Neches, TX (map). After a morning of fishing, we will meet back together for lunch, to share stories, and to hear a devotion from James McDowell. Pizza will be provided. All boats are owned and operated by volunteers, not guides, so participants should bring their own fishing gear and expect to split any expenses. Tips are not allowed but help with fuel expenses and ice is appreciated. While fathers and sons stay together, we try to pair anglers with people that they do not know in order to help make new relationships, so don’t be surprised by this. After a great morning on the water, we hope you’ll have a new fishing buddy and some stories to share over lunch.
Meals:
Please bring snacks and drinks to bring on the boat. A free pizza lunch will be provided at 1:30 pm. Please help us with the headcount.
Rules:
- No perfect people allowed. Come as you are, no pretending.
- Alcohol will not be allowed on boats but will be allowed in moderation after the boat is on the trailer.
- Please be mindful of your language when youth participants are around.
- Have a good time.
What to bring:
- Valid Texas saltwater fishing license
- Drinks and snacks for the boat. Free pizza will be served for lunch.
- Parents – Please provide a safety vest for all youth participants under the age of 16.
- Everyone should bring their own fishing tackle and gear for a morning of redfish, trout, and flounder fishing. Please don’t expect volunteer boat owners to lend out their gear or tackle.
- Filet knife and Ziploc bags – plan to clean your own fish, please.
- A cooler to bring fish home.
- Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses.
- Rain gear and cold weather gear.
- A willing attitude that’s eager to help make it work and have a good time – remember, everyone there is a volunteer, so set your expectations as though you are going on a weekend trip with friends.
Suggested tackle:
Plan to fish for redfish, trout, and flounder. Each fisherman should bring their own rod. Appropriate rods are medium-light to medium action, 6-7ft long, either spinning or bait-casting. 12lb test monofilament or 20-30lb test braided line is sufficient. We recommend putting fresh line on reels if you haven’t done so in the last few months.
