Join us for a 3-day dove hunting and saltwater fishing trip at Oak Island, Texas!

“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Jesus (Matthew 4:19)

Purpose: To build meaningful relationships with other outdoorsmen for the purpose of leading them to, or back to, Jesus Christ.

Keynote speaker: Troy Lindgram

Dates:

Primary check-in will begin on Friday, October 25th from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm at the lodge. If you will not be able to check in by noon on Friday, please let us know ahead of time. The event will officially end at noon on Sunday, October 27th. Everyone must check out by noon on Sunday. Volunteers must check in and be on site by 11:00 am on Friday.

Lodging:

We will stay at the Oak Island Lodge, which is located at 202 Jackson Dr, Anahuac TX, 77514. Website: www.oakislandlodge.net.

Registration:

Men of all ages and skill levels welcome.  First registered first reserved!  If you have been to a Blast & Cast event in the past, please make every effort to bring someone new to the event.  Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Limit one youth participant per parent/guardian, no exceptions.

Hunting: On Friday evening, we will be dove hunting with Jim West Guide Service.  We will have a short orientation after check-in, then carpool to a private dove field for an afternoon shoot.  If the weather is poor, we will push the shoot back to Saturday afternoon instead.  Volunteers will be on hand to help shuttle participants around the field and assist new hunters.  Each participant will need to bring their own shotgun, shells, stool, and any other gear necessary to hunt on their own and clean their own birds.

Fishing:

On Saturday and Sunday, we will be saltwater fishing on Trinity Bay, East Galveston Bay, and/or Sabine Lake.  Volunteer boat owners will be present to take everyone fishing. Each participant will need to bring their own rods, reels, tackle, and any other gear necessary, and plan to clean your own fish should you choose to retain any.

Our volunteer boat owners are paying their way and are not professionals, nor are they licensed guides. No tips are allowed, but participants should bring cash to help split expenses like gas, ice, and bait. Each volunteer boat owner will be assigned a fishing party each day. While we keep fathers and sons together, usually you will be fishing with people you don’t know. This is done purposefully so please don’t be surprised. Additionally, we will try to pair volunteer boat owners with parties suitable to their preferred method of fishing, but please remember to be flexible as this won’t always be possible.

Volunteer boat owners will be introduced to their parties in our meetings. Please see your volunteer boat owner for assistance and/or special needs with regard to fishing. Wade fishing is a possibility, so please bring wading shoes and any other gear that you have. If you have extra gear that others could borrow, please throw it in.

Meals:

Dinner will be provided for both Friday and Saturday night meals. On Saturday and Sunday mornings we will serve breakfast. A limited supply of drinks and snacks will be available but plan to bring your favorite soft drinks. Leftovers will be available for lunches, but most parties will eat out based on their fishing location and schedule.

Freebies: If you’d like to donate door prizes or fishing tackle, please let me know.

Rules:

  1. Perfect people are not allowed. Come as you are, no pretending.
  2. No drunkenness. Alcohol in moderation is allowed, but not in the field or on the boats, please.
  3. Please help keep the environment kid-friendly.
  4. Have a good time.

What to bring:

  • Texas Super Combo hunting/fishing license with HIP endorsement and proof of hunter’s education (if you do not have the super combo, a saltwater fishing license and hunting license with migratory game bird endorsement will work)
  • Shotgun (with plug) and shells for the dove hunt
  • Dove stool or chair
  • Camo or earth-tone clothing for the dove hunt
  • Mosquito spray
  • Anything necessary to clean your own birds
  • Rods, reels, and tackle for the fishing trips (at this time of year, most boats will be throwing soft plastic lures on 1/8 to 1/4 ounce jigheads)
  • Cash for boat gas, ice, or any live bait you would like to use
  • Wading gear (if you have it)
  • Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses
  • Anything necessary to clean your own fish
  • Cooler to bring doves/fish home
  • A willing attitude that’s eager to help make it work and have a good time – remember, everyone there is a volunteer, so set your expectations as though you are going on a weekend trip with friends. This is NOT a guided trip.
