“I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat… John 21:3
Purpose:
To build meaningful relationships with other outdoorsmen in the Baytown, TX area for the purpose of leading them to, or back to, Jesus Christ.
Date:
Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 5:30 am until 12:30 pm.
Registration:
Free! Space is limited so register now. We will prioritize opportunities for those who have not attended Blast & Cast events in the past. Veteran Blast & Cast participants should find a way to volunteer and support the event.
Age limitations/restrictions: Men of all ages and skill levels welcome. All youth must attend with a parent or guardian. Limit one youth participant per parent/guardian, no exceptions.
Fishing:
We will have volunteers present along with their boats. Our volunteer boat owners are not licensed guides and are not being compensated for the trip. No tips are allowed, but please bring cash to chip in for your portion of gas, ice, and bait. Each volunteer boat owner will be assigned a fishing party that is suitable to their boat and style of fishing. While we keep fathers and sons together, usually you will be fishing with people you don’t know. This is done purposefully so please don’t be surprised. Please be flexible in your style of fishing and plan to follow the lead of the boat owner you are assigned to. Essentially, treat this like a fishing trip with a friend… this is NOT a guided trip.
Party assignments will be announced after the morning devotion.
Meals:
Please bring snacks and drinks to bring on the boat. Lunch will be provided at noon.
Rules:
- No perfect people allowed. Come as you are, no pretending.
- Alcohol will not be allowed on boats but will be allowed in moderation after the boat is on the trailer.
- Please be mindful of your language when youth participants are around.
- Have a good time.
What to bring:
- Valid Texas saltwater fishing license
- Everyone should bring their own fishing gear. Don’t expect volunteer boat owners to lend out their gear or tackle
- Cash for boat gas, ice, or any live bait you would like to use
- Safety vest for youth participants
- Sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses
- Filet knife and Ziploc bags – plan to clean your own fish, please.
- A cooler to bring fish home
- A willing attitude that’s eager to help make it work and have a good time – remember, everyone there is a volunteer, so set your expectations as though you are going on a weekend trip with friends.
Suggested tackle:
Plan to fish for trout, redfish, and flounder. Each fisherman should bring their own rod. Appropriate rods are medium-light to medium action, 6-7ft long, either spinning or bait-casting. 12lb test monofilament or 20-30lb test braided line is sufficient. We recommend putting fresh line on reels if you haven’t done so in the last few months.
