“I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat… John 21:3

Purpose:

To point outdoorsmen to the cross by introducing local bass anglers, businesses, and churches to the East Texas Chapter of Blast & Cast Men’s Ministries.

Date:

Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 5:30 am until 1:00 pm.

Guest Speaker:

TBD

Registration:

Free!  Space is limited so register now.  We will prioritize opportunities for those who have not attended Blast & Cast events in the past.  Veteran Blast & Cast participants should find a way to volunteer and support the event.

Age limitations/restrictions: No age limit. All youth must attend with a parent or guardian.

Fishing:

Join us to enjoy a morning of bass and/or crappie fishing on Houston County Lake near Crockett, TX. We will meet at the Crockett Lakefront RV Resort & Marina in front of the store and launch the boats at the marina after boat assignments and a quick prayer. After a morning of fishing, we will meet back at the store to have lunch, share stories, and hear a devotion.  All boats are owned and operated by volunteers, not guides, so participants should bring their own fishing gear and expect to split any expenses. Tips are not allowed but help with fuel expenses and ice is appreciated. While fathers and sons stay together, we try to pair anglers with people that they do not know in order to help make new relationships, so don’t be surprised by this. After a great morning on the water, we hope you’ll have a new fishing buddy and some stories to share over lunch.

Meals:

Lunch is not provided, but pizza and snacks are available at the marina.  Please bring snacks and drinks to bring on the boat.

Rules:

  1. No perfect people allowed. Come as you are, no pretending.
  2. Alcohol will not be allowed on boats but will be allowed in moderation after the boat is on the trailer.
  3. Please be mindful of your language when youth participants are around.
  4. Have a good time.

What to bring:

  • Valid Texas fishing license with freshwater endorsement.
  • All participants – $5.00 cash for the daily use fee.
  • Drinks and Snacks for the boat.
  • Cash for lunch at the store.
  • Boat owners – please bring at least three (3) life vests.
  • Parents – Please provide a life vest for all youth participants under the age of 16 yrs.
  • Everyone should bring their own fishing tackle and gear for a morning of fishing.  Please don’t expect volunteer boat owners to lend out their gear or tackle.
  • Filet knife and Ziploc bags – plan to clean your own fish, please.
  • A cooler to bring fish home.
  • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses.
  • A willing attitude that’s eager to help make it work and have a good time – remember, everyone there is a volunteer, so set your expectations as though you are going on a weekend trip with friends.

Suggested tackle:

Plan to fish for bass, but a few boats may fish for crappie. Each fisherman should bring their own rod. Appropriate rods are medium-light to medium action, 6-7ft long, either spinning or bait-casting. 12lb test monofilament or 20-30lb test braided line is sufficient. We recommend putting fresh line on reels if you haven’t done so in the last few months.
